THE EAST AFRICAN YOUNG AGENTS OF CHANGE CAMP 2012 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

THE EAST AFRICAN YOUNG AGENTS OF CHANGE CAMP 2012
“Young East Africans: Unleashing the Power Within, United, Positively Changing Our Communities.”
VENUE: KENYA
DATE: 19TH – 25TH FEBRUARY 2012

Call for Applications

Background

Akiba Uhaki Foundation, in conjunction with Peak Performance International, is pleased to announce a call for applications to attend the exciting East African Young Agents of Change Camp set to be held in Kenya from 19th-25th February 2012. The Camp is organized as part of a series of actions aimed at nurturing young leaders and change agents who are aware of human rights and social justice and who can actively assert their rights in society including playing leading roles in development and in reform-related activities in East Africa. The theme of the Camp is “Young East Africans: Unleashing the Power Within, United, Positively Changing Our Communities.”

The Camp will make use of the concept of informal and experiential learning as a vibrant new way to encourage youth participation with training and peer-sharing being done in an informal, relaxed atmosphere to enable better out-of-box reflection by the participants as well as having innovative role play sessions and simulation exercises to deeply inculcate the relevant advocacy values on the next generation of community, national and regional leaders. Facilitation of the sessions will be done by a mix of both practitioners/activists and academicians in human rights, social justice and personal development work so that participants will gain useful insights of the need and strategies for both evidence-driven advocacy and effective “street-activism” advocacy. Use will also be made of youth-friendly language for easy grasp by the youth. In addition, a variety of fun activities will be organized to enable social interaction and relaxation by the participants including: “Walking on Fire,” team and board games, screening of movies/documentaries, camp fire, variety shows, sight-seeing and power jogs. At the end, we hope to see a close-knit family of young East African change agents willing to work with other young people from all the 5 countries in the region towards bettering our communities.
